Please reach us at rockypointrattery@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
We are located in Rocky Point, which is in southeastern North Carolina.
No. Rodents can only be shipped by air, which is too stressful for the animals and very expensive.
We can deliver or even meet part way, for a fee. Our fee is based on both distance and travel time, so delivery locations that are further from us will be more expensive.
No. We are a closed rodentry, which means we do not allow visitors. Rodents cannot be vaccinated against disease, so visitors are a potential danger to our animals.
Babies personalities are still developing, even when they're old enough to go to new homes. Their interactions with people will also shape their personality. We handle and play with our animals regularly. If you are looking for a particular characteristic (i.e. curious, outgoing), just ask and we will let you know if any available babies are displaying those traits. We will also post pictures of available babies so you can see what they look like.
We will NOT adopt out single babies, for any reason. We understand you might not want more than two rats. However, pairing a baby with an adult rat is likely just going to put you in the same situation once the older rat passes away. Plus, quarantining any new animals is always recommended, and that is a long time for a baby to be by itself. If you have an older rat, we may consider adopting out a rat that is close in age, if there are any available.
Maybe. Please know, we expect you to have a plan in place on how you are going to deal with babies you don't want to keep. We expect you to have a basic understanding of genetics. That said, we are happy to help with any questions you might have. We will adopt breeders only to established breeders, or people that are serious about learning about ethical breeding.
We will only take in animals that we produced. Any new animals that enter the rodentry have to be kept in quarantine to make sure that our other animals don't get sick, and we don't have the time or space to run a rescue. If you need to re-home your pet, Facebook groups or Craigslist will probably be your best bet.
